Unbelievable! An Unexpected Little Critter

Filed under: Uncategorized — capri @ 9:05 pm

No, I didn’t get another pet, though if I knew how to keep it alive and thriving, I would have.

I was sitting here at my computer, starting on an invoice when something tickled my arm.

I went to scratch it and found that it was a ladybug of all things! Here it is snowy and cold outside, on November 28, and I had a ladybug in my room!

I gave it to Mia (the sugar glider possum) and if she’s eaten it, apparently it’s made her quite happy, she just uttered a loud contented chirp sound.

Hmmm.Well, it was either put the bug outside and let it freeze to death, or let it starve to death in here, or let Mia get it over with quickly. Though I suppose it could’ve survived in here, I’m not sure. It’s amazing that it got in here at all, and especially that insects are active anywhere in this part of North America at this time of the year.

Now, it’s back to business, I still have that invoice to fill out.

Later.

Well…

The week started off good.

Our church band did well with the gathering songs to start the service, and it was sort of an interesting sermon too. The songs used in the Communion ceremony were really nice, but there was one song we sung before the message was given, and it was a very odd sort of tune. It started out in E flat major for a couple of bars, then wandered into D. minor, and those two keys are so disconnected with each other that even a tone-deaf person could tell you something was not right about the tune.

It was a relaxing afternoon after church, my sister came over to show pictures and tell about her trip to Mexico. She said the beach was just like you see on a postcard or computer screen, lots of deep sand that was very white, and the sky was a very deep blue. Wow – now I want to go.

She also said the food was great, which really surprised me. She really lucked out for places to stay and eat, and it sounded like she had a wonderful little vacation. It probably went by very quickly, she was only gone a week.

Then in the evening, I went with my parents to a Christmas/Advent concert that also celebrated Alberta’s centennial. There were choirs, a jazz band, poem recitations, and the Calgary Fiddlers who played a lot of really neat Celtic type music. Lots of Christmas music done fabulously by all groups, and definitely worth going.

But we almost didn’t get in. We thought tickets could be bought at the door, so, didn’t take care of anything in advance. We got there, and there were no more tickets left! So, we went on a waiting list, hopefully to get in if someone who had reserved, canceled. And even then, we had to hope there were three cancelations or we still wouldn’t all make it in to the concert.

It was a bit of a wait, but just before it began, sure enough, there were cancelations, so we and a few others got in by the skin of our teeth, and just in the nick of time.

I don’t know what’s happening yet today besides work later in the afternoon and evening. But that’s quite some time away. Guess I’ll just have to wake up a little more, and see what happens.

It’s Coming!

With Christmas coming, church choir is on again, their performance will be Dec. 18.

There was a staff Christmas lunch party at the River Cafe for the McDonald Wilson Dance Academy. We did a Christmas box gift exchange this year, instead of the gift shuffle we had done in previous years. For the Christmas box, we all had written out answers to a small questionaire and submitted them weeks before, to be collected. Each person got to pick one other submission and buy for that person. I got Michael, and one of the teachers, Tina got me.

Michael put many indications in his answers of being a devout Christian, which was a neat surprise. So, I bought him a calender with spiritual sayings in it.

With my fondness for Christmas music and preparations, Tina got me a cd set of Christmas music, and a home made Christmas ball for on the tree. It has my name written on it, in glitter!

I started out today at work, we’re working on Christmas demos. This year is especially cool, usually they use cds for their Christmas dances and live music for their exercises. This time, for every class, I’m playing the piano for their dances as well – how cool is that!?

So I got home, had a hot drink, checked out the net, then got ready for the lunch party.

Unfortunately everything happens at once, like my aunt – well, Mom’s cousin called, and at the same time, my niece came over, which was planned – to do some quilting. So it was difficult getting out of the house right when I had planned.

The drive down to the River Cafe was nice, but the walk across the bridge was not. It was cold! The first cold day in a long while, we have been so spoiled this year, that I figured no one would be prepared when the weather turned cold. Me included.

Going back over the bridge again after the party was just as cold. Brrrrrrr!

Then I crashed when I was home. I didn’t need supper anyway, since I’d had a quiche and a delicious chocolate Danish at the party.

So, all in all, a good day, despite my constant current sorrow of having to give up one of my chinchillas. Knowing that, plus the excitement about Christmas makes for an odd mix of feelings.

I know at least one person who will have a hard time this Christmas because of the loss of a loved one as well.
